Political Utility Formalization¶
Translating AI Alignment (Utility Engineering, Instrumental Convergence) from Silicon back to Statecraft.
What is this?¶
Political systems are macroscopic, low-bandwidth, analog utility machines. They receive inputs (votes, taxes, lobbying), process them through bureaucratic logic gates (institutions, written law), and produce output (resource allocation, violence, order).
This module formalizes political theory using the language of AI Alignment and Utility Engineering. It explores the terrifying structural symmetries between an unaligned superintelligence and an unaligned state.

The Symmetry¶
If you understand why it is difficult to build an AI that doesn't eventually manipulate its users to protect its servers (Reward Hacking/Instrumental Convergence), you understand why democratic representation inevitably decays into populism and bureaucratic self-preservation.
